The Director of the Laboratory is responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality patient care in a cost effective manner by organizing, planning, and directing Laboratory Services
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES (other duties may be assigned)
1 Ensure the delivery of safe, competent, and high quality professional Laboratory services by assuming responsibilities for the development and implementation of policies and procedures that support the services provided; and committing to developing, monitoring, and evaluating quality through a formalized process.
2 Ensure positive working environment by providing for appropriate development motivation, and supervision of Department staff by assuming responsibility for ensuring adequate and competent staff through ongoing performance feedback, timely annual review of performance, and appropriate disciplinary action within Hospital policies and procedures; evaluating staff development and educational needs and identifies appropriate resources as necessary; providing orientation and in-service training for all staff; and ensuring a safe work environment for staff.

3 Ensure the prudent utilization of human and material resources while maintaining both safety and quality standards by participating in the preparation of capital, operational, and labor budgets. Identifies needed resources and makes those needs known to the organization.
o Plans and prepares annual budgets.
o Plans and prepares expenses and productivity; makes adjustments as needed.
o Recommends and maintains CDM.
4 Ensure the compliance of Department with all applicable agency regulations: TJC, DHS, Title 22, AABB, CAP, CLIA 88, etc.
o Maintain current license/certificate
o Directs/enforces the standards
5 o Ensure maximum productivity and effectiveness. Responsible for staffing, evaluating work performance and corrective action as appropriate in accordance with established policies.
1 Assist with development of Performance Improvement Project in each area of responsibility. Assists in the review & analysis of results. Supports action plans developed from analysis.
2 Prepares reports for Executives and the Board of Directors as needed.
In collaboration with Supervisor:
1 Analyzes statistics and takes appropriate action as necessary.
2 Implements cost containment measures when applicable.
3 Implement revenue enhancement ideas.
4 Demonstrates effective time management.
1 Monitors compliance with all applicable external agency regulations.
2 Ensures compliance with all personnel to safety standards, Hazardous Materials Management program, Universal Precautions, and Infection Control.

3 Uses effective interviewing skills to hire qualified and compassionate staff.
