Overview

The Respiratory Care Practitioner II (“RCP II”) is responsible for providing safe, quality respiratory patient care and teaching to patients and families.  Additional responsibilities include collaboration with the health care team, participation in on-going feedback regarding performance improvement, implementation of clinical pathway/plan of care to guide patient care delivery.

           

The RCP II must demonstrate proficiency in adult general care areas, critical care areas, Bronchoscopy procedures and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.  As needed, this position may be assigned to perform Pulmonary Function Tests or act as a relief lead.  Acting in a relief lead capacity includes organizing, delegating and coordinating the daily activities of the Respiratory staff.

 

  • This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of AHMC Anaheim Regional Medical Center (“ARMC”). It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the core values of ARMC. The employee shall support ARMC’s strategic plan and goals and direction of the performance improvement plan. Responsibilities

  1. Consistently applies infection control policies/practices.
  2. Understands and practices standard precautions for self and others in patient care activities.
  3. Understands and practices appropriate disease-specific isolation.
  4. Appropriately handles and disposes of sharps (i.e., needles, etc.) as required.
  5. Ensures sterility of supplies and equipment.

 

  1. Meets population/age specific competencies per unit specific addendum.

 

  1. Attends department specific education/training, in-services, and staff meetings.
  2. Attends mandatory in-services/educational/training activities.
  3. Submits all required paperwork on time.
  4. Verifies, by signature/initials, attendance at staff meetings or reading of staff meeting minutes.

 

  1. Department specific performance improvement project.
  2. Actively assists in unit performance improvement monitoring.
  3. Knows and understands model for unit’s Performance Improvement Program.
  4. Demonstrates understanding of performance improvement principles in job performance.

 

  1. Uses assessment/protocol framework for the management of patient care
  2. Assesses complex patient needs.
  3. Establishes plan of care based upon assessments, findings, and functional development age.
  4. Demonstrates sound clinical judgment in decision-making regarding patient care.
  5. Evaluates effectiveness of patient care.

 

  1. Provides quality care and maintains appropriate documentation.
  2. Knowledge and flexibility to work all areas and/or assignments as required.
  3. Document is according to policy and procedure.
  4. Maintains responsibility and accountability for management of patient’s respiratory care.
  5. Ability to use appropriate judgment in evaluating situations and solving problems.

  2. Incorporates cultural, spiritual, and psychosocial factors into assessment and care.
  3. Supports patient, family and others through grieving and bereavement process in accordance with healthcare team plan.

  2. Identifies educational needs upon admission and thereafter.
  3. Identifies barriers to learning.
  4. Provides teaching based upon identified need(s).
  5. Evaluates the effectiveness of the instruction provided.

 

  1. Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently provide care in emergency situations.
  2. Effectively prioritizes and assists in clinical interventions and care.
  3. Serves on the Code Blue Team as directed.

 

  1. Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently function in adult critical care areas.
  2. Meet and maintain competencies designed for adult critical care.
  3. Able to competently set-up for bronchoscopic procedures and assist the physician during the procedure.
  4. If trained to do so, competently perform Pulmonary Function Tests properly following ATS Standards.

 

  1. Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently administer medications.
  2. Understands actions, side effects, and contraindications of respiratory medications.
  3. Follows the five “right” of medication administration.
  4. Adheres to medication policies, practices and standards.
  5. Maintains competency on standardized procedures specific to department.

 

  1. Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently use equipment, supplies and perform therapeutic/diagnostic interventions in the delivery of patient care

  1. Provides respiratory care in accordance with law and regulation.
  2. Complies with Respiratory Care policy and procedures in care of respiratory patients.
  3. Participates in quality assurance program by following protocols.
  4. Performs documentation according to policy and procedure in a clear, concise and legible manner.

Qualifications

Current CA RCP license

Current Healthcare Provider BLS

Current ACLS

Current PALS, within ninety (90) days of hire

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred
