Overview

The Registered Nurse provides care, treatment, counseling and health education to the hospitalized patient.  The RN is responsible for planning and coordination of care across the continuum.  This planning and coordination includes meeting and exceeding compliance with core measures, contributes to reduction in LOS, active participation with all aspects of quality, safety and performance improvement activities, collaboration with all the members of the multidisciplinary team in providing outstanding customer service to patients, family members, physicians and the public.  Meets and exceeds the Department of Health Service (DHS), The Joint Commission (TJC) and other regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

1.

Sets goals and priorities according to patient care needs

2.

Recognizes indicators and proper reporting of abuse

3.

Practices National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG), see JCAHO Reference.

4.

Utilizes WHMC methods to access risk and prevention patient falls & skin break down on intact skin.

5.

Assessment/alternative for management of restraints.

6.

Coordinates total nursing care to the patient using the plan of care to provide continuity of care.

7.

Assumes the responsibility for teaching and documenting patient education appropriate and consistently.

8.

Assures complete discharge instructions are given with demonstration or verbalized understanding by the patient prior to discharge and documented in the medical record.

9.

Completes Annual Updates within established time frames.

10.

Completes general and departmental orientation within established time frames.

11.

Attends 80% of in-service programs.

12.

Maintains licensure/certifications as appropriate.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing certificate. Current licensure in the state of California as a Registered Nurse (RN) required. Proficient in oral and written communication skills. Ability to practice leadership, interpersonal skills, communication skills, teamwork, quality improvement and professionalism. Current BCLS, Current ACLS, (AHA) Basic Dysrhythmia Cert. 1 year acute experience.
