Overview

The day / night shift respiratory therapist, first and foremost, serves as back-up and support for the Director of Respiratory Services and performs job duties, as delegated.  The respiratory supervisor is responsible insuring proper staffing and the optimum care of patients on his/her shift in the absence of the Director.  He/she helps to coordinate technical procedures according to the priority and degree of patients’ illness, assuring continuity of care.  The respiratory supervisor will serve as a liaison with Nurses, Physicians and Therapists, as related to the department’s duties.  He/She will insure instruction and supervision of Respiratory Care students while they are in the clinical environment.  The respiratory supervisor will assist the Director with performance evaluation of the respiratory therapist, and facilitate with continuing education and in-service of the respiratory department. The respiratory therapist supervisor must have good communication skills and a strong background in ER, ICU, and NICU Respiratory Care.  He/She needs to be able to act independently in the absence of the Director.  He/She must be qualified to perform all the Respiratory Care procedures and be able to guide others through patient care procedures. 

Qualifications

  1. Current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the State of California.  (Registered Respiratory Therapist preferred).
  2. Graduate from an AMA approved Respiratory Therapy Technician program and is credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Therapy.
  3. Minimum two years experience including clinical experience.
  4. Exhibits self-direction in completing assigned patient care duties
  5. Current CPR, ACLS, PALS, and NRP.
