Overview

Provides physical therapy services in a hospital Neonatal Intensive Care setting to address the needs of infants with disabilities or at risk of disabilities. Provides interventions based on the comprehensive assessment and written evaluation which is appropriate for the infant's physiologic and medical condition. 

 

Responsibilities

  1. Performs developmental assessment of infants in response to a physician order utilizing appropriate observational skills and testing procedures as indicated by the infant’s current physiologic and medical status.
  2. Establish realistic and measurable goals for both short and long term, based on identified problems.
  3. Develops and implements a plan of care utilizing interventions that will achieve the stated goals.
  4. Interprets the assessment findings to the family and other members of the care team, solicits input from the family and other members of the care team in the development of treatment goals and care plan.
  5. Reassesses patients per policy and procedure making appropriate changes in the goals and/or plan.
  6. Communicates patients progress to the members of the care team providing recommendations for the discharge plan through participation in case conferences and discharge planning.
  7. Coordinates with CCS case manager for referral to CCS-paneled provider of CCS MTU for the patient who may require physical therapy services after hospital discharge
  8. Provides family education during the hospital stay and in preparation for discharge in order to facilitate the goals.
  9. Provides caregiver education during the hospital stay in order to facilitate the goals
  10. Documents all services provided and meets all other related documentation requirements in an accurate and timely manner.
  11. Delegates to and supervises the patient care provided by occupational therapy assistants.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Physical Therapy 
  • Minimum of one year of experience in the care of infants 
  • CCS-paneled physical therapist available to the Community NICU
    who meets the requirements contained in Chapter 3.3.2 of the CCS Standards for
    Pediatric Community Hospitals.
  • Current certification by the National Board for Certification in Physical Therapy or valid registration with the American Physical Therapy Certification Board
  • National provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire
