Overview

The candidate chosen for the position will be able to independently assist the GI Lab physicians on all procedures performed. All hospital policies and procedures will be followed and individual will adhere to all regulatory compliances.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates Accountability in GI Technician Role

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and proficient practice by assisting the procedural physician in the various GI procedures performed at WHMC.
  • Applies knowledge of advanced GI procedure techniques (ERCP's and G-Tube placement).
  • Functions as a patient advocate throughout the procedure.
  • Checks supplies and equipment needed for GI procedure.
  • Anticipates the needs of the Physician by watching the progress of the procedure and understanding the various steps of the procedure.
  • Properly labels and preserves specimens received during the surgical procedure according to WHMC policy and procedure.
  • Maintains the highest level of technique during the procedure.
  • Cleans endoscopes post procedure and has scopes ready for the next procedure.
  • When not in the scrub role, gathers supplies for the following procedures.
  • Assists the Procedural RN with duties that do not require nursing licensure.
  • Assists with turnover of the procedural room.
  • Transports the patient to the PACU with GI Lab RN.
  • Orders, stocks and rotates supplies.
  • Assumes call team responsibilities per WHMC policy and procedure.

Customer Service

  • As observed, all interactions are conducted in a professional manner; is supportive and consistently demonstrates customer service standards.
  • Verbal and written feedback from patients, family members/significant others, medical staff, visitors and co-workers indicates positive behavior.
  • Consistently exhibits appropriate phone protocol (e.g. answers phone promptly by the 3rd ring, is courteous and helpful).
  • Consistently contributes to the team effort (e.g., assists co-workers when need is observed or when required; offers constructive suggestions and ideas.

  • Utilizes AIDET (acknowledge, instruction, duration, explanation, thank you) in all communications with patients and staff.
  • Utilizes Onstage/Backstage techniques for communication with patient, family and hospital staff.
  • Consistently strives to understand, anticipate and meet the needs, expectations and satisfaction levels of patients and other customers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Grad, from approved ORT course preferred.
  • 1 year experience GI LAB preferred.
  • BCLS required.
