Monterey Park Hospital, located in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles, is a 101 bed acute care community hospital. Monterey Park Hospital providing our community with advanced medical and culturally sensitive healthcare services for over 50 years. Monterey Park Hospital is recruiting for a Director of Laboratory Services for our Laboratory Department. Monterey Park Hospital’s Director of Laboratory Services is responsible for the daily operations of the Clinical Lab and Pathology Departments in addition to clinical oversight of the Cardio-Pulmonary-Respiratory Department. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
The Director of Laboratory Services assures that the laboratory, pathology and respiratory departments maintain compliance with all applicable federal and state regulatory standards on an ongoing basis. The Lab Director creates and drives a culture and work environment of superior quality lab/pathology and respiratory services. The Lab Director works closely with the Medical Directors of the Clinical Laboratory and Respiratory departments to establish clinical standards. Responsibilities of the Lab Director include the management and operations of the clinical laboratory and pathology departments including all point of care testing, ensures staff competency with analytical instruments, equipment, quality assurance programs, quality control testing, test results, and develops positive inter-hospital relationships with clinical nursing departments. The Lab Director ensures the test methodologies and instrumentation selected have the capability of providing quality test results to ensure safe patient care. The Lab Director reviews and updates lab policies and procedures and ensures the respiratory department policies are also current. The Lab Director is responsible for the operational budget development for the lab, pathology and respiratory departments. The Lab Director manages effectively through the hiring of competent staff, schedules staff based on department/hospital needs, orients and trains new staff, promotes staff development, counsels staff on performance as needed and conducts timely staff performance evaluations. The Lab Director holds staff accountable for their job responsibilities. The Lab Director provides management support to the Respiratory Supervisor and respiratory staff.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in clinical laboratory science, biological sciences or chemical
sciences required. Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience: 6 years general laboratory experience as a Clinical Lab Scientist. 5 years
management experience in an acute care hospital setting. Knowledge of CLIA, CAP, TJC,
AABB, FDA and state regulations required
License: Current CA Clinical Lab Scientist license required. ASCP certification preferred
