Overview

The Department Manager is responsible on a 24-hour basis for the direction of overall operations, direction of unit staff, and support of patient care activities in Perioperative Services. The position provides direction to the Perioperative Services Clinical Shift Managers and Specialty Leads, the Anesthesia Technician, OR Materials Coordinator and Scheduling Secretaries.  The position is also responsible for physician relations, staff development quality development, quality improvement activities and patient/family education using a multidisciplinary approach.

 

Responsibilities

The Department Manager, in collaboration with the Director, is responsible to develop and maintain an environment that supports quality care and customer support for inpatient and outpatient surgical services from pre-admission through post-discharge from the surgical areas, including the collection, analysis, and dissemination of clinical and financial data to support evidence-based decision-making by clinicians and management.  This position will manage Perioperative Services by aligning operations and performance improvement activities across multiple entities, with special emphasis placed on integrating policies, standards of care, staff recruitment and training, and capital equipment purchase and maintenance.  The position serves as a liaison between Medical Staff and Hospital Administration and is accountable for maintaining compliance with all applicable Joint Commission, County, State, and Federal agencies laws, regulations and standards.

 

Qualifications

Education/Training/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare, Information Systems or other related field preferred.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience including cost reduction, productivity, enhancement, interdisciplinary practice with emphasis on quality/performance improvement within a surgical focused product line.

  • Highly effective communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency with complex information systems and information systems networking abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and influence others in a collaborative manner, attention to detail and follow through of all assignments.
  • Demonstrated analytical, creative thinking and problem solving skills.
