  • Overview

    The Controller is responsible for the management and operations of the Finance/General Accounting Department. The principal focus of the Controller is on financial affairs—not only to assist to develop strategy, policy and procedure but to also lead in their achievement.  As other members of management, the Controller is responsible to leverage resources and to support System objectives with local resources.

    • Oversee activities in the Finance/Accounting Department including planning, coordinating, and directing the general accounting, payroll and account payables staff.
    • Work closely with the Director of Patient Accounting regarding account receivable valuation each month including planning, coordinating, monitoring and recommending process improvements as needed.
    • Oversee activities of the Accounting Department for accurate and timely dissemination financial management reports including but not limited to internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits and annual budgets.
    • Maintain knowledge of all applicable regulations and standards to ensure compliance with orders or directive issued by governmental/regulatory agencies or third party payors. This covers areas such as financial accounting and reporting procedures, federal wage-price guidelines, and developmental of data to meet the proposed requirements of the federal Annual Hospital Report.
    • Review, examine and approve monthly entries posted to ledger and journals for accuracy and compliance with established accounting policies and procedures.
    • Maintain follow up to assure timely preparation of all reports that must be prepared within area of responsibility and review completed projects for accuracy and reasonableness before final submission.
    • Develop, analyze and provide recommendation to new or modified accounting systems and tools to provide complete and accurate financial and statistical reporting.
    • Act as an assistant to the CFO in areas of project assignment, coordination and delegation to the Accounting Department.
    • Review, interpret and analyze financial and statistical data for CFO, management, and department heads.
    • Plan and coordinate the development of the annual operating and capital budget, as well as plan, coordinate and prepare for year-end external audit by Public Accounting Firm.
    • Develop and maintain policy and procedure manual over all areas of responsibility.
    • Work cooperatively with other management team members to support the hospital wide team efforts and initiatives.
    • Oversee department’s activities to ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards and other applicable law and regulations
    • Develops implements, monitor and evaluates departments’ budget to ensure appropriate and effective allocation of human and material resources.
    • Responsible to hire, train, develop, and evaluate staff timely and effectively.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors Degree in Accounting.
    • Minimum of five (5) years experience in health care financial services and supervisory experience.
    • MBA and CPA (preferred).
    • Membership in AICPA and HFMA are (preferred).
