Overview

Monterey Park Hospital, located in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, is a 101 bed acute care community hospital. We are currently recruiting for a Nursing Informatics/Educator for our Inservice Educaton Department. This position is a full time 8 hour, day shift position. Monterey Park Hospital has provided our community with advanced medical and culturally sensitive healthcare services for over 40 years.

Responsibilities

The Nursing Informatics/Educator is a clinical liaison to nursing, medical staff, staff and other patient/non-patient care areas to coordinate aspects of planning, designing, development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of clinical information systems including the electronic medical record (EMR). The Nursing Informatics/Educator will coordinate and support the assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating of clinical education services including but not limited to Preceptor program, Nursing Orientation program, Annual Re-Orientation, competency validation, and Employment Training Panel (ETP) Project. The position supports the management staff in ensuring that staff development activities are consistent with current education standards, accreditation requirements, and needs of facility.

 

Duties include analyzing complex clinical operations and structure processes to facilitate decision making regarding clinical systems; utilizing the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer applications; ensuring information systems are consistent with professional standards of practice, and assuring that staff development activities are consistent with current education standards, accreditation requirements, and needs of facility. The RN Nursing Informatics/Educator will stay abreast of information technology; provide options on emerging technologies and aid in adopting technology and incorporating it into existing systems and procedures. Leads or participates in projects involving technical components or technological risk. Directly reports to the Director of Staff Development with dotted line to Information Technology Director.

Qualifications

Experience: 3 years clinical nursing experience required.

Education: Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Education or BSN preferred.

License/Certification: A valid, current Registered Nurse license required. BCLS and ACLS required.

Other:

  • Knowledge of The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large group.
  • Broad knowledge of multiple areas of Education, business systems, PCs, collaborative computing skills, process improvement techniques, information management in healthcare preferred
  • Leadership skills, self-directed, project management and understanding of change management
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment
  • General knowledge of systems integration, laws and regulations preferred
  • Experience with Quality improvement reviews preferred.
  • Experience with CPSI or other EMR system required.
  • Writing and editing skills, computer expertise in MS office applications.
