Under general supervision and medical direction, provides any or all of the designated respiratory care therapies designed to care for patients with deficiencies and abnormalities, which affect the pulmonary system and associates aspects of cardiopulmonary function.
This position requires providing care and/or service to a critically ill through sub-acutely ill newborn patient population in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional and/or developmental age of the individual served.
Specific Job Duties:
- Follows appropriate Code Blue / White notification procedures |
- Functions in a Code Blue quickly and calmly providing CPR |
- Communicates significant changes in patient’s condition/status in a timely manner |
- Effectively prioritizes clinical Interventions and care |
- Maintains PALS, NRP and NPS as per advanced Neonatal RCP commnunity standards |
- Humidification Therapy |
- Oxyen set-up/administration |
- Pulse Oximetry set-up/monitoring |
- Arterial blood gas sampling and analysis |
- Pediatric heel sticks/capillary blood draws |
- Aerosol Medications (Nebulizer Treatments) |
- Non-invasive ventilation: high flow nasal cannula and nasal CPAP |
- Postural Drainage and Percussion |
- Suctioning (nasotracheal, oral and ETT) |
- Oral Airway Management |
- Trach Management (Monthly change and Daily maintenance) |
- ETT care |
- Intubation and airway management |
- Ventilator set-up and operation |
- Ventilator troubleshooting |
- Weaning and Extubating |
- High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilator: set up, operation and troubleshooting |
- High risk delivery attendance: infant resusucitation and stabilization |
- Exogeneous sufactant administration |
· Obtains necessary training prior to initial equipment use |
· Assures equipment is in operating order prior to use |
· Uses the following equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s operating instructions, including but not limited to: |
- Draeger Baby Log Infant Ventilator |
- Sensormedics 3100A High Frequency Oscillator |
- Compressed air/gas tanks |
- Oxygen administration devices |
- Pulse Oximeters |
- Suction Equipment (wall/portable) |
- Arterial blood gas analyzers |
- High Flow Nasal Cannula |
- Non-invasive CO2 monitors |
Graduate of an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy with an Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Registered Respiratory Therapist
Minimum one year Level II or Level III NICU experience required
Current CA License as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
Current BLS and NRP Cards, NRP instructor preferred, PALS preferred
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) preferred
Perinatal/Pediatric Specialist certification by the NBRC preferred
