Overview

The Long Term Care Staff Development Educator is responsible for planning, conducting, and coordinating educational programs for the development and improvement of necessary skills and knowledge for all Long Term Care (LTC) personnel.  The Staff Development Educator ensures orientation, certification, and inservice programs are conducted according to facility policy and procedure and in compliance with state and federal regulations.  The Staff Development Educator will conduct inservices as mandated by state and federal regulations and that address the needs of the facility as determined by the facility's Quality Improvement Program, through completion of clinical rounds as identified by the Director of Long Term Care/designee, or as identified during a Licensing and Certification visit.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and promote a continuous educational environment to staff through positive communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with all levels of staff.
  • Demonstrate and promote a professional work environment by maintaining a professional, positive role model image to staff.
  • Meet the state qualifications for teaching an approved nurse assistant training program.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Current California licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association for the Healthcare Provider
  • Director of Staff Development Certification or must be certified within 3 months after hire

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a long term care environment
  • Possess one year of experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating education programs in the field of nursing

 

Other Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:

  • Show evidence of leadership ability; and a willingness to work with others
  • Excellent reading, verbal & written communication skills are necessary. Must have good guest relations skills.
  • Possess knowledge of nursing skills and practices.
