The Staff Nurse is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for the assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients and their families in compliance with the standards for care at Seton Medical Center, AHMC and Nurse Practice Act. The Medical telemetry nursing involves the use of specialized equipment to monitor patients' vital signs remotely, often for those with cardiac conditions or other medical issues requiring continuous monitoring. The Med Tele Nurse will also cover the needs of a Acute Care- Med Surge patient.
Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitor and interpret patients' vital signs, such as heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation, using telemetry equipment.
Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret data from monitoring devices, recognizing any abnormalities or changes in patients' conditions. Report findings to the healthcare team.
Communication: Maintain effective communication with the healthcare team, including physicians, other nurses, and support staff. Provide updates on patient status and collaborate on care plans.
Documentation: Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and responses in the medical records. Keep detailed records of telemetry data and any changes in the patient's condition.
Emergency Response: Respond promptly to alarms and emergency situations, initiating appropriate interventions and notifying the healthcare team as needed.
Patient Education: Provide education to patients and their families about the use of telemetry equipment, the purpose of monitoring, and what to expect during their stay in the telemetry unit.
Medication Administration: Administer medications as prescribed, ensuring accurate dosage and monitoring for potential side effects.
Collaboration: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement comprehensive care plans tailored to each patient's needs. Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care, safety, and outcomes within the telemetry unit.
Compliance: Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to patient care and telemetry monitoring.
Critical Thinking: Demonstrate critical thinking skills to assess, prioritize, and manage multiple patients with varying levels of acuity.
Adaptability: Adapt to changes in patient conditions, unit priorities, and healthcare protocols. Other Duties: as assigned.
Qualifications for a Med Tele Nurse may include a nursing degree (Associate's or Bachelor's), relevant nursing licensure, and certification in telemetry or cardiac nursing. Experience in telemetry or a related field is often preferred. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are essential for success in this role.
