Overview

The role of the Physician Assistant in Cardiovascular Surgical Services (PA) requires the performance of a combination of surgical functions. The PA renders direct patient care as part of the perioperative role by assisting the surgeon in the surgical treatment of the patient. The responsibility of functioning as PA must be based on documented knowledge and skills acquired after specialized preparation and formal instruction. The PA practices advanced surgical assisting skills such as providing exposure, tissue handling, endoscopic vein harvesting, suturing, providing hemostasis, and using surgical instruments. The PA is involved in all aspects of pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative patient care within the scope of the privileges approved by the Medical Center and within the scope of practice as stated by Title XXII of the State of California. The PA participates in the daily activities of the department as an active team member and assists in any other capacity according to established procedures.

 

  • This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of AHMC Anaheim Regional Medical Center (“ARMC”). The employee will also be expected to support all organizational expectations including, but not limited to; Customer Service, Patient’s Rights, Confidentiality of Information, Environment of Care and Anaheim Regional Medical Center initiatives. The PA must abide by the Principles of Medical Ethics of the American Medical Association, or any other appropriate Code of Ethics consistent with the laws of the United States and the State of California.

Qualifications

Education/Training/Experience            

Minimum of 3 years assisting in Cardiovascular Surgery procedures.

Knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and operative technique related to the operative

procedures in which the PA assists.

Ability to demonstrate skill in behaviors unique to the PA (as defined)

Meets requirements of statutes, regulations and institutional policies, relevant to the PA.

Successful completion of a 4-year Physician Assistant program and internship

 

Licenses/Certifications  

Current California Physician Assistant License

Current Physician Assistant Certification (NCCPA) preferred

            Current DEA certification

            Current BLS/ACLS certification

Current Medicare NPI (National Provider Identifier) number

Current Professional Liability Insurance coverage ($1-$3 million)
