Overview

Performs complex maintenance and repair services of the hospital’s physical plant; equipment, buildings and properties.  Duties may include one or more of the following areas:  mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, paint or HVAC.  Operates and maintains stationary gas and oil fired boilers and auxiliaries in supplying hot water and steam for other power generating purposes. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of AHMC-Whittier Hospital Medical Center. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the core values of AHMC-WHMC. The employee shall support AHMC- Whittier Hospital Medical Center’s strategic plan and goals and direction of the performance improvement plan.  The employee will also be expected to support all organizational expectations including, but not limited to; Customer Service, Patient’s Rights, Confidentiality of Information, Environment of Care and AHMC-WHMC initiatives.

Responsibilities

Observes and controls demands on equipment by adjusting valves and other controls.

 

  • Runs water analysis daily and adjusts chemical feed pump.

 

Performs regular inspection tour of the physical plant to assure the safe and efficient operation of equipment.

 

  • Log P.S.I. temperature and fluid level on forms provided for equipment status in daily operators log journal with 90% accuracy.
  • Report any major malfunction of critical equipment to supervisor with 90% accuracy.

 

Work orders completed in a timely manner and properly turned in.

 

  • Work orders completed, all materials listed, properly signed and delivered 95% of the time. 
  • Must have time, materials, mechanics name and must be turned in within 8 hours of completion of job.

 

Performs preventive maintenance functions on a planned and scheduled basis.

 

  • Follow maintenance schedule standard set by manufacturer’s data sheet using log check list for each piece of equipment.

 

Perform weekly tests on all emergency equipment including switch gear.

 

  • Perform a check list run of the emergency generator system weekly at specified time.
  • Log performance data with 98% accuracy. 
  •  Report malfunctions to supervisor.



Maintains clean equipment and equipment rooms.

 

  • Keeps central plant clean 95%.  Floors weekly, 95%. 
  • Dusts down equipment weekly, 80%.  

 

Performs hospital maintenance duties as required.

 

  • Cooperate with building maintenance, 100%.
  • Help mechanic with heavy lifting, 100%.  
  • Answer stat service calls, 100%.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: High school graduate
  • Minimum Experience:  One year exp. with boiler operation
