Overview

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation and evaluation.  Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care based on established clinical nursing care for patients the medical surgical services based on established clinical nursing practice standards.  Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.  Serves as the Resource nurse role when oriented and as directed.  Supports the organization vision and mission.  Utilizes knowledge of patient's age, developmental status, spiritual and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care.  Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.  

 

 

Responsibilities

ER Overflow Registered Nurse Core job duties:

 

Clinical Assessment and Patient Care

  • Conducts comprehensive initial assessments and timely reassessments of patient care needs based on clinical review and direct observation.
  • Initiates appropriate actions and timely interventions for potential emergencies, including recognizing behavioral or physical changes in patient status.
  • Coordinates total nursing care to ensure continuity, utilizing the plan of care as a guide.
  • Performs and documents nursing interventions accurately and legibly to meet patient needs, including catheter care, monitoring of tubes (e.g., IV, O2, NG), and wound care.
  • Follows hospital Fall Prevention Protocols and effectively manages risks for skin breakdown.

Care Planning and Documentation

  • Identifies patient problems based on admission assessments and establishes/updates goals within the nursing care plan.
  • Reviews and revises the plan of care at least every 24 hours to ensure continuity of care.
  • Assumes responsibility for teaching and documenting patient education consistently.
  • Ensures patient and/or family has a clear understanding of discharge instructions prior to patient leaving the unit, with all education documented in the medical record.

Safety, Compliance, and Professionalism

  • Practices strictly according to National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) and hospital safety policies.
  • Recognizes indicators of abuse and follows proper reporting procedures.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment, including ensuring the unit is adequately equipped with supplies and medications at the start of the shift.
  • Follows all departmental policies governing conduct, including professional use of electronic messaging, communication protocols, and dress code.

Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with physicians, coworkers, and other hospital staff to achieve departmental goals.
  • Communicates effectively with the interdisciplinary team to resolve problems, proactively presenting suggested solutions to the Department Manager/Director when concerns arise.
  • Demonstrates effective two-way communication skills, including attentive listening and professional acceptance of feedback.
  • Supports Patient Rights and treats all internal and external customers with sensitivity and respect.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing certificate.

Licensure in the state of California as a Registered Nurse (RN). 

Current California RN license

Current and maintain BCLS, ACLS (required from AHA),

CPI/AB508, NIHS Stroke certificate required

Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills

Basic Dysrhythmia certificate preferred

1 Year acute experience required

Ability to practice leadership, interpersonal skills, communication skills, teamwork, quality improvement and professionalism.
