The Clinical Manager of Labor & Delivery is a Registered Nurse (RN) who answers to the Director of Maternal Child Health with administrative tasks and acts as a clinical resource for the Labor and Delivery (L&D) unit. The Clinical Manager of L&D shall directly supervise personnel and assure the quality of clinical nursing care of patients in the L&D Unit. The hours of work are flexible based upon the need of the hospital. Plans and maintains staffing pattern for the patient care unit, meeting the patient’s need for continuity of care and level of care. Demonstrates knowledge of legal and ethical aspects surrounding the provision of patient care; ensures the staff functions are within legal limitations. Consistently guides, directs, coaches, and supports staff regarding performance, problem solving, and decision making.

Utilizes computer skills for accurate unit census and order entry, and maintains all log books, (i.e. census, telemetry, consults).

Review/revised policies and procedures. Observes and evaluates unit staff ability to perform assigned duties and provides feedback to director as needed. Rounds on all patients daily. Assesses the care being delivered to patients on assigned unit in accordance with policies procedures and standards of care. Contributes to the development of more complex patient care plans. Supervises, supports and coaches other in utilizing the nursing process with all patients on the unit.

Applies appropriate theory as a basis for decisions regarding nursing practice. 

- Coordinates all administrative and nursing activities, directly and indirectly relating to patient care, to ensure that a standard of excellence is maintained in the quality of care delivered to patients at the Medical Center during the assigned shift. The Administrative Supervisor shall be considered “Administrator in residence” after normal business hours. Responsible for evaluation/execution of bed control. - This position requires providing managerial/administrative supervision to a facility which provides care/service to a normal through critically ill, neonatal through geriatric patient population in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional and/or developmental age of the individual served. - This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of San Gabriel Valley Medical Center.
