The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Department Manager has responsibility for the administration, organization and professional management of the NICU. Specifically, the position is accountable for the ongoing evaluation of unit operations and quality outcomes; prepares and is accountable for the operational and capital budgets for all areas of responsibility; and ensures that all services meet the needs of physicians, patients, families, and ancillary departments and staff. This position serves as a liaison between Medical Staff and Administration and is accountable to the Country, State and Federal agencies as well as Joint Commission for maintaining compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and standards, and contributing quality patient outcomes while consistently maintaining the highest level of customer service.

Implements quality standards and provides oversight of section processes to achieve excellent outcome and quality patient care. Performs Laboratory testing on patient and control samples, and/or prepares blood components for transfusion. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures. This knowledge includes the use of specialized analytical instrumentation, clinical correlation of test results, quality control requirements, and preventative maintenance. Maintains department readiness for regulatory inspections and compliance requirements. Maintains department policy and procedure manuals in accordance with hospital policy. Is responsible for department quality control records, instrument maintenance, regulatory agency compliance, and supply process. Participates in the continuous quality improvement process through professional development, continuing education, data collection and evaluation, and quality assurance. Develops and maintains orientation, training and competency tools and ensures compliance. Assists the Laboratory Services Director in evaluating and documenting employee performance. Assists Laboratory Services Director in the recruitment, hiring, termination and retention of employees. Coordinates staff development activities of section including education, competency completion, validation, and orientation. Participates in data collection and analysis as requested by management. Maximizes efficiency in section operations. Exhibits willingness to resolve problems as they arise.

Performs general maintenance and repair services of the hospital’s physical plant; equipment, buildings and properties. Duties may include one or more of the following areas: mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, paint or HVAC. May operate and maintain stationary gas and oil fired boilers and auxiliaries in supplying hot water and steam for other power generating purposes.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing certificate. Licensure in the state of California as a Registered Nurse (RN). Proficient in oral and written communication skills. Ability to practice leadership, interpersonal skills, communication skills, teamwork, quality improvement and professionalism.
Current California RN license
Current BCLS, ACLS (AHA), CPI/AB508
Proficiency in both written and oral English
Basic Dysrhythmia certificate preferred
1 Year acute experience.

- Under the direction of the Department Director, is responsible for the accurate identification, preparation and distribution of drugs and other clinical pharmaceutical items. Also responsible for the direct supervision of ancillary personnel (technicians, interns, couriers) working in their immediate area.

The educator acts as a key resource in the orientation and continuing education of the nursing staff. The OB Clinical Educator implements a comprehensive education program for L&D and Postpartum areas. Education programs typically include, but are not limited to orientation, continuing education, simulations, and in-services. Other services may include, but are not limited to process, performance and service-delivery consultation. Other related duties as assigned.

- The Lactation Consultant will coordinate patient care and educational activities related to lactation. This role encompasses consultation with inpatient clients and health professional in the hospital. The lactation consultant educates the patient in all aspects of prenatal and postnatal lactation care. The lactation consultant is responsible to provide guidance and support to the patient to promote breastfeeding. The lactation consultant is responsible for providing safe, family centered patient care by assessing, planning, and evaluating lactation plans for the mother-infant dyad, as well as for the pumping mother, and is fully collaborative with the patient, family, significant other, and members of the health team.
