The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist is responsible for development, implementation, and documentation of the antimicrobial stewardship program for the Medical Center. This will be accomplished through collaboration, coordination and communication with the System Clinical Pharmacy Manager, staff pharmacists, medical staff and other healthcare workers at each facility. The goals of the program – to ensure clinical and microbiological effectiveness of antimicrobials; decrease the emergence of resistance; education of prescribers (including pharmacists, nurses and ancillary healthcare providers) in therapeutically efficacious and cost- effective therapy; decrease adverse reactions and predisposition to secondary infections; improve patient care by shortening length of stay, preventing ADR and secondary infections; promote conversion of intravenous therapy to oral antibiotics; consolidate antimicrobial formulary; control antimicrobial costs. This pharmacist will coordinate the pharmacokinetics service according to the most recent guidelines and recommendations published in pharmacy and medical literature.The pharmacist will assist other hospital personnel in the development of clinical pathways, protocols, polices and procedures and provide advanced education to students, residents, pharmacists, and other health care professionals.
The Licensed Vocational Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care services that meet the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care and meets the communication needs of the patient and family under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of normal limits of vital signs and commonly used lab tests by recognizing abnormal findings and reports them to the RN. Under leadership of RN the LVN gathers data on patient’s physical and emotional needs. LVN gathers data on family psychological needs. Performs simple procedures skillfully (e.g. dressing changes, urinary catheterizations, tube irrigations). Participates in patient care plan conferences and in discharge planning.

A Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (“Ultrasound Tech”) provides diagnostic patient care services using high-frequency soundwaves to take images and scans of the body’s internal organs, referred to as sonograms, under general supervision, but not direct supervision, at the direction of licensed physicians. Candidates must be knowledgeable with all current sonography and radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients, visitors, and staff. Candidates are required to be knowledgeable in terminology related to sonography, anatomy, and pathology. The ultrasound technologist may specialize or work in a broad array of specialties including obstetric and gynecological ultrasounds, and neurological, breast, abdominal or vascular sonography. Candidates will use cognitive sonographic skills to identify record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. Candidates will review and evaluate all images captured for quality to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. A candidate’s job skills require excellent written and verbal communication, sensitivity to the physical and psychological needs of patients. They must be able to work with patients who may be nervous, in heightened emotional states, and/or have limited mobility. Candidates will be able to give straightforward instructions as well as foster a sense of comfort and confidence in patients. Attention to detail and the ability to follow a physician's instructions will be important to the success of working in a team concept. Most of an ultrasound tech’s day will center on preparing patients for procedures and taking images, but as may be expected in any healthcare environment, there is substantial paperwork and other patient and equipment tasks that must be done throughout the workday. Position requires physical stamina transporting patients to / from the hospital bed to the Ultrasound Department. Candidate will be required to work variable shifts, including weekends and holidays, and will rotate on a stand-by / call-back schedule as required for ultrasound coverage. As members of the care team, they must coordinate with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, doctors, and other technologists, to ensure continuity of care and appropriate follow-up with patients.

The position will work in collaboration with the medical director of cardiothoracic surgery and hospital staff to provide comprehensive care including medical procedures that may be required for a specialty area, utilizing approved standardized procedures as outlined in the NPA, Section 2834 including Furnishing Drugs and Devices, and CCR Section 1480. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Analyze pathophysiology for various cardiovascular disease processes
Develop cardiovascular diagnoses, formulate a treatment plan and evaluate patient response to treatment
Monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
Utilize evidence-based medicine practices using quality, cost-effective care
Educate patients and families regarding the cardiovascular disease process, including primary and secondary cardiac prevention, while remaining cognizant of the patient's emotional, physical and cultural needs

The position has responsibility for providing expertise in the coordination and delivery of patient care to pre and post op open heart patients in collaboration with the staff caring for the patients and the cardiothoracic surgeon. Additional responsibilities include pre and post operative teaching, working on the admission process, and patient and family teaching. The Cardiovascular Nurse Practitioner is also responsible for collecting STS and CCORP data and presenting this data at department meetings.
