The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Department Manager has responsibility for the administration, organization and professional management of the NICU.  Specifically, the position is accountable for the ongoing evaluation of unit operations and quality outcomes; prepares and is accountable for the operational and capital budgets for all areas of responsibility; and ensures that all services meet the needs of physicians, patients, families, and ancillary departments and staff.  This position serves as a liaison between Medical Staff and Administration and is accountable to the Country, State and Federal agencies as well as Joint Commission for maintaining compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and standards, and contributing quality patient outcomes while consistently maintaining the highest level of customer service.

This position is a first line management position. The incumbent has 12-hour responsibility for the coordination of care for patients and families. In conjunction with the area’s Operations Manager or Director, the incumbent shall plan, organize, direct, and evaluate people and activities for the department to ensure the delivery of high quality, cost-effective patient care. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an advanced practice nurse who functions in the role of expert clinician, educator, consultant and researcher. In collaboration with the Medical and Nursing Staff, the CNS monitors the clinical care of patients and provides clinical support to improve patient care and outcomes. With in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience in a nursing specialty, the CNS assists patients and provides clinical support to improve patient care and outcomes. With in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience in a nursing specialty, the CNS assists patients, families, staff, physicians and leadership in providing solutions for complex patient care issues. The CNS serves as a role model, patient advocate, change agent, and leader to enhance patient care. JOB SUMMARY: The Director is a Registered Nurse who assumes 24 hour administrative responsibility and is accountable for the strategic planning, direction, organization and control of the inpatient Maternal Child Health Department.  This position is responsible for the direction of clinical delivery of care and meeting fiscal goals.  The directorsupervises, assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the delivery of patient care. Develops and implements departmental plans, including performance improvement activities and compliance with current regulations. Assumes 24 hour accountability for the departments. Communicates with staff, physicians and administration both written and verbally. Assumes house supervisory responsibilities as assigned, including responding to codes throughout the hospital, assessing and charting, and following through with appropriate documentation. Consults with staff, physicians and Nurse Executive on nursing issues and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in PI activities/ formulates budget for the department. The position is accountable to the County, State and Federal agencies as well as Joint Commission for maintaining compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and standards and for providing quality patient outcomes.    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING - Must have a current and valid state license as a Registered Nurse - BCLS upon hire and maintain current.\ - A minimum of two years supervisory/management experience necessarry. - Must obtain Sexual Harassment Certification within 6 months, and then maintain biennially. - ACLS, NRP upon hire and maintain current - Minimum 5 years’ experience as a perinatal nurse in an acute care setting - Bachelor’s degree preferred.
