Laboratory Assistants / Phlebotomists are non-professional personnel with training in areas of the clinical laboratory useful to the overall efficiency and smooth operation of the laboratory. These areas include: phlebotomy, preparation of send out tests, answering the telephone, and assisting in the chemistry, hematology, and microbiology areas of the laboratory. The purpose of the job description is to provide information on how this useful assistance can be given. In order to qualify for this position, one must be able to work independently and under the direction of a Specimen Processing Coordinator, Laboratory Supervisor and Laboratory Director. This person should be versatile in all aspects of the laboratory as well as a team player to assist performing all necessary specimen collections and processing alleviating the CLS form these tasks, which includes reference lab testing and microbiology set-ups. This person must have an extensive computer and LIS capability and be able manage the workflow in the processing area including reference lab testing, microbiology setup and receiving and processing of samples from alternate facilities.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
- High school education or its equivalent experience (An AA or Bachelor's degree is preferred.)
- Two years of experience as a phlebotomist.
- Certified for venipuncture and skin puncture CPT.
- Be able to communicate well in English both in writing and verbally.
- Minimum of four years of experience in a clinical laboratory with at least two years of experience as a Laboratory Technician a lead laboratory assistant, and or a Lab Assistant Supervisor, or show equivalent experience.
- Have at least two years of LIS experience and computer knowledge, or show proficiency.
- Have good organizational skills.
- Have some experience with the operation of any automated chemistry, hematology, or microbiology experience
- Work well under supervision and in times of stress.
- BCLS Card (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintain..
Administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. Performs tests of cardiovascular and pulmonary system to aid physician in diagnosis and treatment of the heart and lung disorders.
The Cardiac Sonography Technologist performs routine and emergency echocardiographic diagnostic procedures on neonatal through geriatric patients. The Sonographer also performs echocardiogram/doppler studies, stress echocardiograms with/without contrast, transesophageal echocardiograms, Dobutamine stress echocardiograms, and echo guided pericardiocentesis. The sonographer also assists the department and physician in performing routine and emergency diagnostic cardiology tests on neonatal through geriatric patients to include electrocardiograms, rhythm strips, code blue response for electrocardiograms, stress testing, nuclear stress testing, and stress portion of stress echocardiograms. The Sonographer processes paperwork for each procedure, assists in establishing new procedures and maintaining current procedures for the cardiology department.

Performs radiographic procedures in the cardiac catheterization lab and special procedures suite to produce contrast enhanced radiographs of the heart, cardiovascular system and all vascular catheterizations to assist the physician (radiologist or cardiologist) in diagnosis and intervention. The Special Procedures Tech will assist in patient care and preparation of patients scheduled for diagnostic or interventional procedures both in the cardiac cath lab and in the special procedures suite. The Special Procedures Tech will demonstrate heightened knowledge, ability and experience, with all technical and clerical duties under the direction of the department supervisor, lead technician /circulating nurse and department policy. The Special Procedures Tech will be exceptional in skill, knowledge and composure during emergent situations. The Special Procedures Tech III will serve as a role model for other technical staff secondary to the experience and ability of this position. Special Procedures Tech will be exceptional in team dynamics. Special Procedures Tech will always demonstrate willingness to learn and develop expertise in new techniques and procedures within the service. Services are delivered to the patient population ranging from the adult through geriatric.

The ED LVN/RN Case Manager uses InterQual criteria to evaluate the appropriateness of admissions, level of care, and readiness for discharge. Assures correct level of care: critical, telemetry, acute, observation, for all admissions. Work with physicians to assign/order appropriate designation and medical record documentation. The incumbent leads the development and manages the implementation of the interdisciplinary plan of care for identified patients, involving all members of the health care team as appropriate.
