Monterey Park Hospital is recruiting for a Lab Assistant for our Laboratory Department. This position is per diem with variable shifts. This position reports to the Clinical Lab Director.
The purpose of this job description is to define the responsibilities of the LIS Assistant. The systems assistant assists in the operation of the hospital laboratory by overseeing the operation of the Laboratory Information System (LIS), monitoring, through the LIS, the performance of the Hospital Information System, and assisting in the operation, statistical input, and monitoring of the Ordering Entry System and laboratory as well as other task assigned by the Laboratory Director, Operational Manager, or LIS Manager.
- High school diploma or its equivalent experience (An AA or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- BCLS Card (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintain.
- 5 years of experience working with a clinical laboratory including administrative responsibilities preferred.
- Demonstrate excellent computer skills.
- Be able to communicate well in English with physicians, nurses, patients, and LIS representative contacts.
- Work well under time of stress.

The position will work in collaboration with the medical director of cardiothoracic surgery and hospital staff to provide comprehensive care including medical procedures that may be required for a specialty area, utilizing approved standardized procedures as outlined in the NPA, Section 2834 including Furnishing Drugs and Devices, and CCR Section 1480. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Provides leadership, clinical guidance and professional expertise to staff.
Analyze pathophysiology for various cardiovascular disease processes
Develop cardiovascular diagnoses, formulate a treatment plan and evaluate patient response to treatment
Monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
Utilize evidence-based medicine practices using quality, cost-effective care
Educate patients and families regarding the cardiovascular disease process, including primary and secondary cardiac prevention, while remaining cognizant of the patient's emotional, physical and cultural needs

The position has responsibility for providing administrative expertise in the coordination and delivery of patient care to pre and post op open heart patients in collaboration with the staff caring for the patients and the cardiothoracic surgeon. Additional responsibilities include pre and post-operative teaching, working on the admission process, and patient and family teaching. The Cardiovascular Nurse Practitioner is also responsible for collecting STS and CCORP data and presenting this data at department meetings.
Directs, coordinates and evaluates the activities of the following departments: maintenance, facility operations, grounds, biomed, security, safety and emergency management. Serves as the Safety Officer and Emergency Management Officer as well as oversees the Environment of Care, Life Safety, and Emergency Management Chapters for The Joint Commission. Prepares annual operating budgets for these departments; develops policies and procedures; performs personnel administrative functions. Directs the Hospital’s performance improvement activities of each department. Responsibilities also include the oversight of all construction projects. It is expected that all regulations and codes related to OSHPD, DHS, OSHA, State, county, city and local agencies will be observed and conformed to.
Reports to the Chief Operating Officer regarding the physical and structural conditions of hospital facilities and the status of work in progress, and new projects.
Develops, evaluates and implements departmental policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and standards of work for the maintenance and repair of medical equipment, buildings and building systems.
Develops and ensures the application of standards of quality and productivity for Plant Operations, Facility maintenance, Biomedical Engineering, and Security Department.
Administers and implements preventative maintenance procedures to ensure uninterrupted operation of the entire physical plant. Monitors and documents its applications to assure maximum effectiveness.
Directs the ongoing inspection of hospital and grounds to ensure the condition of the physical plant complies with all local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
Directs the repair of equipment or recommends the replacement of or additions to equipment or physical plan as necessary.
Responsible for the selection and coordination of all maintenance service contractors and ensures all contractual provisions are met along with established codes.
Responsible for developing the annual operating budget, which includes personnel, equipment, materials and supply needs. Continues to monitor budget after adoption.
Maintains personnel files and records, authorizes timecards and prepares statistical and operating reports.
Participates in performance improvement and information management programs.
Supervises the Department managers, supervisors and staff.
Assists all department managers in the budget process, which includes operating and capital budget preparation and maintenance.
Develops standards of performance, determines areas of responsibility, assigns responsibility and accountability and delegates authority to the managerial, supervisory and professional members of the staff.
Monitors departmental personnel matters including, but not limited to, interviewing and the hiring of new staff, training, evaluating work performance, promotion, counseling, discipline and termination. Consults and coordinates with the Human Resources Director regarding employee grievances for final disposition.
Ensures all department staff receives on-going in-service education, on the-job training, evaluations and open departmental meetings.
Evaluates personnel on a regular basis according to prescribed guidelines.
Maintains good interdepartmental and intradepartmental relationships by providing the highest level of services, management assistance and follow-through.
Participates in information management, performance improvement and infection control programs.
Responsible for the Safety Program at ARMC and is designated by the Governing Board as Safety Officer of the facility.
Works with the State Fire Marshall and Environment of Care Committee to establish and coordinate the fire prevention and suppression program- encompassing the hospital grounds and ancillary buildings.
Chairs the Environment of Care Committee and Emergency Management Subcommittee.
Manages the Environment of Care Quarterly & Annual Reports
Manages Emergency Preparedness for the ARMC
Coordinates all Emergency Recall Lists for ARMC.
Represents the hospital as a contact at all times for any emergency or disaster related issue. This includes outside sources such as CAHAN (California Health Alert Network) and Live Process (Emergency Preparedness software).
Coordinates all Environmental Tours throughout hospital and ensures that findings are compliant with hospital policy & procedure or TJC regulations.
Performs additional tasks as assigned by the Executive Team.

Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation and evaluation. Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care based on established clinical nursing care for patients the medical surgical services based on established clinical nursing practice standards. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Licensure in the state of California as a Registered Nurse (RN). Proficient in oral and written communication skills. Ability to practice leadership, interpersonal skills, communication skills, teamwork, quality improvement and professionalism.

Proficiency in both written and oral English
Basic Dysrhythmia certificate preferred
1 Year acute experience.
Responsible for providing acute patient care in a safe, appropriate and effective manner in Pre-Op/PACU and Cath Lab from admission to discharge, under the direction of a Registered Nurse in compliance with the Nursing Practice Act. Responsibilities include directing the unlicensed employee’s activity, synthesizing patient information, assessment of patients, planning of care/intervention, teaching of patients/family, implementation of treatment plan/MD orders, and documentation and evaluation. This position provides support to all procedural areas in collecting and obtaining needed test results prior to procedure Examples of duties include:
Obtaining test results and notifying physician
Obtaining needed physicians orders
Checking charts for completion and accuracy
Collaboration with health care team, patient and family to coordinate patient care delivery.
Participation in ongoing feedback related to self, individual, unit and organizational performance improvement.

Certain Clinical Documentation Improvement functions are expected in this position pertaining to inpatient Medicare and senior Medicare patients with MediCal APR-DRG assignment. Extensive interaction with physicians and responsible for physician education pertaining to principal diagnostic assignments, ICD-10-CM and PC physician education. Smart review of Medicare patients is required.

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the administrative direction of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is the highest-level financial executive. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) has complete oversight of all fiscal functions within Monterey Park Hospital (MPH) including the development, interpretation, coordination, and administration of the hospital’s policies on finance, accounting, insurance, financial/accounting systems, internal controls, budgeting, and auditing. The CFO oversees the planning and direction of all finances, and formulates long-range goals and plans for expansion. Develops and establishes operating policies consistent with overall objectives and ensures their adequate execution. The CFO manages, directs, plans and coordinates the functions and activities of assigned areas; serves as part of the hospital’s senior management team. The CFO is to manage the financial affairs of the hospital according to the business unit goals, sound business practices, corporate and hospital’s policies and procedures according to the government regulatory requirements. The incumbent will ensure efficient utilization of resources in order to meet the needs of the organization and will maintain compliance with all federal, state, local, and government agencies and accrediting bodies as required.
Participates in executing administrative decisions as these functions relate to and impact the provision of total patient care. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with all departments and with members of the Medical Staff to accomplish the strategic goals and to achieve and enhance the mission of Monterey Park Hospital.
